I guess this is a quick post, for people to know that I am still alive and kicking. I had a lot of crazy stuff happen in my life over the last year, but I really hope 2010 will be much better. I am feeling optimistic through it all. Last year had so many bad moments with a few great ones mixed in. I managed to take a trip to Germany and the Czech Republic, and I really hope I am bale to return in the very near future. I love Europe so very much. I guess all I need to do now is get cracking on making this a better blog and to be more consistent. I think it is going to be part of my New Year’s resolutions. I have still been making art and these tiny collages I was updating on this blog. I have many more to post, but if you want a quick peek, check out my main website, www.dirtycanvas.com

I still have infinite amounts of vintage paper to scan and load onto this blog. It is a daunting task, but I am learning that discipline is key when wanting to accomplish anything!

I had a terrific time at the Alameda Antique Fair (which is the first Sunday of every month). It was my first time, and I just about went crazy over everything that I saw. There just isn’t enough time in the world! Anyways, the next half dozen photos were purchased at that fair. I think I paid 50 cents for this one, everything was half priced! I love a good deal on some rad vintage paper!

These respectful Japanese men, stopped briefly for a nice photo at a temple or some type of landmark. I have included a scan of the back….and if someone could tell me what it says, then that would be pretty groovy. At least we know the date, May 15, 1966.

If Only It Were TRUE! We know that real artists don’t make any money, or barely enough to survive.

Art is always the first thing to be dropped by society in tough times….even though everyone fails to remember that art designs and creates everything you use, every product you buy, your transportation, your food, your shelter, your entertainment……all designed by an artist of some sort. Funny how artists are thought to be “throwing their lives away,” for the pursuit of their very-important craft. I would hate to see a world without art and artists. We would have no history for future generations and absolutely NO Culture….think of Orwell’s 1984. The world would officially suck hard.

YOU WILL OPEN YOUR EYES: “When You see the crate crate of chestnuts owing to the fact that the Factory is very busy and back on orders. I could not fill your order sooner. Let me know wether you get them all O.K. We are well, A.D. Reading, PA” (I wonder if anyone else finds the character to be a bit scary? I have another postcard, designed by the same artist, with an even creepier face….with a grin full of teeth. I already used him in a mixed-media piece, though.)

The back was written in pencil, and everything below, “Hello Brother,” is illegible. I always thought this postcard was weird.
